Evening update
Apr. 12th, 2006 02:06 amElsa is back from the emergency vet. She has a bandage wrapped around her, and is extremely woozy from the drugs the vet used on her to get her to stay quiet and still while they cleaned the wound. They also took a biopsy of the area around the wound, to see if they can figure out what caused the abscess in the first place. One possible origin is cancer. Elsa is an old dog, probably 11, so cancer is a real possibility. The only other likely origin is some sort of infection, whether from an injury or another source. One of the vet's first questions was whether Elsa is an outdoor dog, or would have been bitten by another dog recently. She's not an outdoor dog -- at least not anymore -- and her getting bitten without someone having picked up on it is unlikely at best. So I get to wait for a week to see what the biopsy says.
Tomorrow, when she's more awake, I get to see what she thinks of an Elizabethan collar. She's going to look silly, I know that much.
