I'm probably going to buy a DVD player in the relatively near future. I would like it to be regionless if at all possible. (I do not own any DVDs, nor do I expect that I will often play out-of-region DVDs; I am merely irritated by the whole concept of regioning and want to do what I can to subvert it.) So, I am looking for recommendations for regionless DVD players. Anyone have one that they like or hate? And why?

Check at DVD City.

I got mine there a few years ago, and they appear to still have good resources and support for region-free DVD players.

It's years ago that I last researched this, but I love my Apex 600A DVD player - they cornered the market in region-free players for a while. I think there are many other players now, but they were the first to flaunt the stupid Region rules.

I use it to watch Anime brought back from Japan that has not been released in the US yet (though that list is shrinking as Anime finally catches on here). Having the highest quality sound and picture is not critical for me, I get those from a mainstream US only player from Sony - but the sony does not play a lot of formats - and the Apex plays everything.

Holy Smokes the world has changed, I googled region free DVD players - and got lots of sites:
