Heaven in a glass
Feb. 28th, 2005 05:53 pmIf you can find Dogfish Head Brewery's 120 Minute IPA in your area*, do so. It is wonderful. Despite being 21% alcohol, it has none of the hot alcohol flavor I associate with barleywines or other high-alcohol beers. Instead, it has an almost thick round body, with a good balance of malt and hops, leaning toward slightly sweet, and a long aftertaste. It is difficult to drink this beer quickly: it took me over an hour to drink a single pint, and was worth every sip. The 120 Minute IPA webpage says "This beer AGES WELL", which I believe. It has many of the same characteristics (sweet, thick, round) as other beers that age well, such as Thomas Hardy's Ale and Samuel Adams Triple Bock (flash site, Triple Bock is under "Extreme Beers"); however, 120 Minute IPA is far more drinkable straight from the brewery than either Thomas Hardy's Ale or Samuel Adams Triple Bock.
