The Lowell Folk Festival is this weekend, 24-26 July. It has lots of traditional folk music from around the world (i.e., no stereotypical singer-songwriters a la Christine Lavin or Bob Dylan), such as New Orleans jazz, zydeco, klezmer, Tuvan throat singing, and other fun stuff. There's all sorts of traditional ethnic food as well.

Come on up!

I'm actually volunteering the entire weekend. I'll be out and visible Friday evening -- I'm a wandering information-giver and helper-out at the dance pavilion -- but Saturday and Sunday I'm assigned behind the scenes.

I may regret volunteering the entire weekend, but I'll see how it goes.

Before I go spend significant time communing with mbta.com, can you tell me how close the train station is to the event? Is it feasible to T in?

The train station is just over 1/2 mile to the first performance stage (the Dutton Street dance pavilion) and about 3/4 mile from downtown. It's eminently walkable. The Lowell bus system's central stop is at the train station, so you can also grab a bus downtown.

Public transit changes for the Folk Festival include extra trains leaving Lowell for Boston late on Friday and Saturday as well as a dedicated shuttle from the train station to City Hall downtown.

OMG THE FOOD. YUM.

I'll be at Art in the Courtyard, which is between the Market Street Stage and the Dutton Street Dance Pavilion. Stop by and say hello!
