Divorce hearing take 2 happened Tuesday. There was a brief scare at the beginning: it turns out the mandatory financial disclosure statements are only good for 45 days after they're signed. Fortunately, the clerk had spare forms so I could fill out new ones and turn them in.

This time, the judge (a different judge) accepted our separation agreement and granted judgment of divorce. This starts the timer for the actual divorce to happen. On 4/22 (30 days after 3/23) a judgment nisi of divorce enters. This means that while we're technically divorced, it's really easy to undo the divorce. On 7/21 (90 days after 4/22, or 120 days after 3/23) the judgment nisi converts to an irrevocable judgment of divorce, which means that the only way to undo it is to get married again.

Whew.

out of curiosity, did you have to significantly change your separation agreement for the second time around?

It depends on how you look at it. The major thing that changed was who kept possession of the house before we formally decide what to do with it (sell, keep jointly as rental property, or one of us buys out the other) and some details about who pays for the house based on who's living in it. While I didn't consider the changes major, they may have been enough to change a judge's mind. However, I'm more of the opinion that having a different judge was what altered the outcome.

Glad that's finally done for you. I'll remember that about the financial forms...
