This is more curiosity than anything else. Does anyone reading this have recurring dreams? Or have you had them in the past? By this I mean dreams that have the same, or similar, setting (and the same players, if there are players).

I ask because I've just realized I've started on a second recurring dream. The first one showed up sporadically for about four years, and ended two years ago or so, and involved me trying to navigate my way out of a huge stone building that proved to be the warrens under a cathedral. The dream series ended when I found my way out of the cathedral. The current one so far involves a 36-story building on a waterfront, with an elevator akin to the one in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory -- except the controls are both hidden, and not obvious in their use. I have no idea what the end state of this dream series will be.

So: have you had recurring dreams? If so, and you're willing to share, what is your recurring dream?

I've had quite a few recurring dreams throughout my life, though usually no more than one or two showing at a time during a given span of years. I don't know that I could describe them in any sensical way right now, however. They're also usually fairly long and complex plot-wise, compared to my normal dreams.

I do not have recurring dreams. In fact, I don't dream much at all.

Although you would not know it from the wacky dreams I've been having this week. One night I'm shooing wheelchair gangstahs out from my store doorway, the next night I'm buying a shawl/scarf thing from Cher at a craft fair....

I have a number of recurring dreams... Some of them very surreal, and some of them fairly normal.

Your recurring dreams sound very Myst like. :}

I hope you figure out whatever it is that's got you puzzled.

I do have recurring dreams from time to time, and these are the ones most likely to portray symbolize what is going on in my life in some obvious manner.

One of the longest running is about being sent back to high school as a punishment for being unemployed.

I had nightmares about monsters chasing me after some threatening incidents that happened while I was studying at M.I.T. These continued for several years afterward until I finally got sufficiently sick of running to stand and fight. Within a few weeks, I had figured out that the dream always stopped immediately if I turned around to face the monster and fight, trained myself to do this consistently in my sleep, and then the nightmares stopped for good.

There was another series about having gotten a new job and forgotten to quit the old job.

I have had few recurring dreams that involved *exactly* the same setting and players, but I've had many dreams that were similar themes. This was more frequent when I was a kid, and more often they were scary dreams.

Recently the dreams have been me (and sometimes someone I care about) trying to take a train somewhere. I'm very confused about which is the right train, which is the right direction, will I have the fare, can I make it on time, will I be separated from my travelling companion... odd that I'm still having this dream now that I am employed, hrm.
